HRH Princess Chulabhorn visited the Chulabhorn Village Development Project in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province (17 March 2009)

Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn visited the administrative building at Chulabhorn village 3 development project, Tung-Yai district, Nakhon Si Thammarat on 17 March 2009.

Her Royal Highness followed up Chulabhorn village 1, 3, and 4 development projects which represented the collaborative effort of both public and private sectors. The projects improved the environment and the quality of life of people who had faced flooding.

During the visit Her Royal Highness maed a donation to children at the Chulabhorn development center. She also visited village people and doctors. People who are in Chulabhorn development center came from Kratoon village, Pipoon district, Nakhon Si Thammarat because of the widespread flooding in 1988, including people from Kereewong village and others. The projects aimed to develop the quality of life of the village people, providing vocational and skills training, and improving communities and the environment. Chulabhorn Research Institute provided workplace, public health, and nutritional advice.

Chulabhorn development center 1 was established in 1989 and is located at Tungnamuangchai village, Tayuang district. There were 102 families with a total of 403 persons. Mostly, their jobs were gardening in palm orchards and rubber plantations, and raising livestock. Chulabhorn development center 3 is located at Noungsamesip, Kura district. There were 100 families with 331 persons. Their occupations were gardening in palm orchards and rubber plantations, raising animals, and breeding fish. Chulabhorn development center 4 is located at Samedjuan village, Kura district. There were 98 families with 417 persons. Their occupations were gardening in palm orchards and rubber plantations, weaving, growing vegetables and mushroom cultivation.

Chulabhorn Research Institute and other government offices helped to improve occupations of people in schemes such as Romfar Chulabhorn development group 4 (growing vegetables, using organic fertilizers), Lady Chulabhorn development group 3 (seaweed crisp rice, flower decorations), and Housekeeper Chulabhorn development group 1 (cleaning agents, detergents, growing vegetables, feeding pigs, and breeding fish).


Moreover, Chulabhorn Research Institute and other government offices had set up committees to improve living standards of people according to the principles of sufficiency economy. Also, there was a savings group as well as the village fund management for occupational assistance which was around 4,500 to 10,000 Baht per family per month
