Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, visited the French Republic, the Swiss Confederation and the Federative Republic of Brazil on 16 September – 1 October 2010.
During the visit to France, Her Royal Highness went to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, (IARC) in Lyon, to seek cooperation on the research and studies of cancer useful for further cancer research, prevention, and cure in Thailand.
The IARC is part of the World Health Organization. Its mission is to coordinate and conduct research on the causes of human cancer, the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and to develop scientific strategies for cancer prevention and control. The Agency is involved in both epidemiological and laboratory research and disseminates scientific information through publications, meetings, courses, and fellowships.
After her visits to France and Switzerland, HRH Princess chulabhorn proceeded to join the Tenth International Conference on Mechanisms of Antimutagenesis and Anticarcinogenesis (ICMAA 2010) in Guaruja, the Federative Republic of Brazil. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness also delivered a special lecture on “Natural Products with Anticarcinogenic/Chemopreventive Properties from Thai Bioresources”.
ICMAA is a series of successful conferences held every 2-3 years since 1985 and hosted by different countries in different regions of the world. ICMAA 2010 focused on mechanisms of antimutagenesis and anticarcinogenesis. The conference provided an excellent opportunity for scientists from around the globe to exchange ideas, stimulate collaboration and discuss how distinct sets of agents exert their chemopreventive activity contributing to improve human health. The INCON 2010, on the other hand, was the first nutrigenomics conference in Brazil. It explored the potential role, application and impact of nutrigenomics in addressing public health issues. Many opportunities were opened to network and begin collaborations among leading experts and participants in this rapidly – developing field.
Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn departed from Suvannabhumi Airport on Thursday, September 16th 2010, at 23.25 hours, aboard the Swiss International Airlines LX 181 and returned by the same airline on the LX 180 flight on Friday, October 1st, 2010.
