Attractions

Bangkok, known to Thais as "Krung Thep" (meaning the City of Angels), was established in 1782 by King Rama I as the capital of Siam. Like other modern cities in the world, Bangkok has many skyscrapers, luxurious hotels, hi-tech shopping malls, and a modern international airport. However, Bangkok has managed to retain its traditional charm. It is a mixture of old and new, of East and West, and this is apparent wherever you go in this intriguing city.

If your stay in Bangkok is a short one, you won't be able to see all the attractions. For visits of four to five days, include Wat Pra Kaew (Emerald Buddha Temple) and the Grand Palace along with Wat Po, Wat Arun, the National Museum, Erawan Shrine, Vimanmek Teak Mansion, and a river or canal trip.
