The First Princess Chulabhorn Science Congress, International Congress on Natural Products was the inaugural Princess Chulabhorn Science Congress or, in short, Princess Congress I (PC I). The congress was convened on December 10-13, 1987 to commemorate the 5th) cycle (60th) Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and was attended by over 1,000 participants from 45 countries. The congress gave an up-to-date picture of all aspects of development in natural products research, with special emphasis on Organic Chemistry and Drug Development. The fact that results from natural products research find diverse applications, such as in public health, agriculture and industry, enhances the value of the natural products which are generally abundant in this region of the world. It was also anticipated that the congress would act as a catalyst to promote further development. The Nobel Prize scientists, Professor Herbert C. Brown and Professor Kenichi Fukui, presented lectures in this Congress.
