President of the Institute
Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, founding President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, is the youngest daughter of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand. As a qualified scientist, she has always attached the greatest importance to the role of science in social and economic development, and accordingly originally conceived the idea of creating a national institute to assist in the development of Thailand.

Research
As the core activity of the Institute, research is geared towards the utilization of science and technology for improving quality of life. This includes increasing the value of natural products and agricultural produce, prevention and management of hazards from chemicals natural resources for national development, and alleviating common diseases that are of concern to public health. Research activities are conducted in 9 research laboratories.

Academic Activities
The Institute places a strong emphasis on capacity building for human resource development and provides a wide range of training programs in science and technology. Each program is designed for a specific target group e.g. scientists, academics, trainers, government officials, industrial personnel and, in some cases, for the general public.

Special Projects
HRH Princess Chulabhorn has initiated several projects to improve the quality of life of impoverished people in different areas of the country. By providing them with houses and employment opportunities, the projects aim to establish an environment for a sustainable way of life. Some of these projects are Chulabhorn Pattana projects, Red Sapphire projects and Baan Namsai community project. read more |
