AAALAC Accreditation
The Association for Assessment and Accreditation for Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International is a private, non-profit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. You can find more information here.
AAALAC Website
CRI's Laboratory Animal Unit has been accredited by AAALAC since 2010. This involves a site visit by international experts in animal care and use for research and thorough review of the facilities and animal use program, providing a level of assurance that the animal care and use program meets the internationally-accepted reference standard. Accreditation also involves an annual report submitted to AAALAC related to any protocol violations; animal use not approved by the IACUC; protocol suspensions; changes in facility size, location, or name; changes in IACUC composition or members; and other changes in the animal care and use program.
