Chulabhorn Pattana 2
This particular village established in 1989, is
located at former Huay Treed Village, Phipoon,
Nakorn Sri Thammaraj. The Kibbutz system was
the prototype of this community.
The original Israeli Kibbutz co-operatives is a
commune-type cooperative system where
everything (land, housing etc.) belongs to the
Kibbutz. The members will be provided with all
the necessities in the form of food, lodging,
clothing, etc.
Chulabhorn Research Institute has modified
the Kibbutz system to serve the needs of flood
affected people, and 265 families were settled in
4.3 ha of land. The rationale behind Chulabhorn
Research Institute’s decision to use this particular
modified Israeli Kibbutz system at this village
because a great number of the people insisted that
they remained in the areas where they use to live,
even though there was a small area of land
available for agricultural activities. They even
agreed to change their way of life and occupations
from rubber plantation, which requires a large area
of land which is approximately 2.4 ha per family,
into communal fishery, animal husbandry and
other agricultural activities.
Most of the villagers work in the agricultural sector. The others joined clothes making group and ceramic project.
